uPaint Art Retreat – Maple Ridge – Loon Lake – March 5 – 7, 2021

Join us for our 2nd Annual art retreat! This weekend retreat for women is all about painting with professional artist Janice Robertson; and learning the ins and outs of getting your art noticed both on Instagram, and out in the world, with professional artist April Lacheur.

Whether you are a novice painter, or intermediate, this weekend is all about relaxing and letting go, so you can let your creativity flow. Painters will bring their own supplies-a list is provided for each workshop. There will be morning meditation as well as time to sketch and hike.

A small gathering of 20 women to ensure we have a safety-conscious, socially distanced weekend of self-care.

Less than an hour from Vancouver, BC, Loon Lake Lodge and Retreat Centre is nestled among tall fir trees that frame the majestic Garibaldi Mountain Range. The sights, sounds, and smells of a wild West Coast forest is a perfect place for quiet reflection and inspiration.

The Four Colour Landscape in Acrylics with Janice Robertson

This workshop will explore the concept of working with a limited number of acrylic colours to paint a simple landscape subject. The course is suitable for beginner to intermediate level painters.

Reference photos will be supplied, or students can choose to work from their own choice of subject. The workshop will feature instructor demonstrations and lots of one to one guidance.

 If you’re just getting started in painting acrylics, or you’ve been painting for a while but want to learn more about understanding colour, then this is the class for you!

Supply List:

  • artist quality acrylic paints
  • synthetic brushes in a variety of sizes-minimum of one small round brush and 1 inch, 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch flat synthetic brushes
  • palette to hold your paints [ large]
  • 3 canvases- suggested size 12 x 16
  • small sketchbook and 2 b pencil
  • spray bottle for water
  • medium- Acrylic Glazing Liquid [gloss or satin] by Golden recommended
  • paper towels
  • tissues
  • large water bucket
  • garbage bag for the table
  • portable easel if you have one

Professional Development For Artist workshops with April Lacheur

Want to share your art with the world? Want to get more sales and make an income from your art?

April Lacheur will share examples from her experience building a thriving art business and specific ideas for how you can share your art with the world and start (or increase) making sales. There is something for every artist who wants to share their work in this workshop and it is not a requirement that you have a goal of selling to attend. Whether your goal is selling or simply sharing this workshop is for you.

Instagram for Artists workshop with artist April Lacheur

Instagram is a FREE tool perfect for artists because it is a VISUAL platform.
This workshop is perfect for artists who are not yet using Instagram *OR* are currently using Instagram but want to learn how to better use it to see more results.

Requirements:
You must bring your smartphone to the workshop. There is no cell reception at the retreat but there is WIFI.
The Instagram app must already be installed on your phone before arriving.
You must already have created an Instagram account and completed the ‘homework’ (homework will be sent to retreat participants beforehand)
Handouts will be provided. Please bring a pen to take notes.

April will be sending out instructions and videos on how to start an account and get rolling with Instagram before the workshop. This is ‘required homework’ so that we can all start in a similar place and get the most out of our time together.

April has been using Instagram to successfully share and sell her art and will use specific examples from her own experience and account.

Janice Robertson

Janice Robertson

Janice Robertson has been painting and teaching art for over 30 years. She is the author of 2 instructional books on painting in acrylics, and has published articles in a number of different art magazines. Janice is a senior signature member and past president of the Federation of Canadian Artists. She has won a number of awards over the years, the most recent being first place in the FCA’s annual Canada show.

Janice’s work often features the beauty of the west coast landscape, and she also enjoys painting florals, birds and animals. Janice is currently represented in 6 commercial galleries.

April Lacheur

April Lacheur works as a professional artist creating bold and colourful acrylic paintings inspired by west coast nature. Through her paintings, April explores the concept that humans are similar to nature, especially trees, with deep roots and important connections. Once a Registered Nurse, April has worked hard to build her art business over the past 10+ years and now works full time as an artist, having traded in her  stethoscope for a paint brush!

WALTER C. KOERNER FORESTRY CENTRE

Built in 2006, the Walter C. Koerner Forestry Centre offers full retreat services. This is the ideal place for meetings, retreats, and conferences. Enjoy comfortable private accommodations, a conference room with modern AV equipment and WiFi, a private kitchen and dining area and fireside lounging all under one roof.

Each bedroom is outfitted with 1-4 sets of twin beds or Douglas-fir bunk beds and full linens are provided for the beds. Shared or Private accommodation is available. Women will NOT be assigned to a top bunk.

Large shared washrooms (2 rooms to 1 shared bathrooms with cleaning stations) are in all the buildings and there are many comfortable common areas to mingle or read a book. All rooms are simple aesthetic, and take in views of the forest and lake. All rooms are inviting and comfortable. There are no TV’s, telephones within the rooms.

CANCELLATION POLICY

If you cancel your participation in a retreat for any reason, the cancellation policy below will apply, with no exceptions. We wish we could compensate people for unforeseen circumstances (injury, family emergency, etc), but we have costs already incurred when reserving retreat centres and hotels. We have designed our cancellation policy to be as compassionate as possible in the case that your plans change. But to protect yourself further, we strongly encourage you to purchase travel insurance.

SAFETY

We are taking the pandemic very seriously, and have implemented a new structure to our weekend retreat experiences.  Overall reduction of retreat attendees to 45 women, private accommodation, cleaning stations throughout the property, properly spaced chairs and tables during the workshops and during meal times. We are taking our workshops outside as weather permits, and providing all attendees a personal safety package that includes a beautiful journal, name tag, pen, mask, hand sanitizer, hand wipes and a bottle of water plus some extra sweet treats!

 

IF YOU CANCEL THE RETREAT

31 days or more prior to the start date of the retreat: a 50% refund will be given.

0-30 days prior to the start date of the retreat: no refunds will be given.

***If the venue cancels our retreat-a 75% refund will be given.

Yes - Tickets are transferable at any time to another person or can be deferred to a future retreat.

After you have purchased your ticket-if you have any symptoms directly related to COVID 19, have been diagnosed with COVID 19, or a family member has been diagnosed with COVID 19, then the regular cancellation policies apply.
